Taco Tuesday looks a little different with this Taco French Bread Pizza taking center stage! All of your favorite taco flavors are nested in a loaf of French bread for a dinner the whole family loves.
There are two things that always go over well in my house – pizza and tacos. So it’s not surprising that we usually have pizza night every week, and taco night every week.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with the basic, traditional pizza or tacos. But every once in awhile, I like to switch things up. Sometimes that means a different kind of pizza. Or different kind of taco. Or how about combining them both into one?
This concept is really not even a new one for me. I’ve made taco pizza before. And pizza tacos. But then I had the idea to make one of my favorites – French bread pizza – and give it a taco twist.
We love pizza night, but sometimes you want to change it up. And I love French bread pizza because of how easy it is.
For this Taco French Bread Pizza, all you need is a loaf of French bread and your regular taco toppings. Now, there are 2 ways that you can make your French bread pizza. First, you can cut the loaf in half lengthwise and top each half. But my favorite way to do it is to cut the bread into sort of a boat – making an indention in the French bread. Then you can load it up. I start with ground beef that has been seasoned with Old El Paso taco seasoning. I always keep it on hand because I know my whole family loves it. The taco seasoned beef goes inside the bread, gets topped with cheese and baked, then loaded with your favorite taco toppings. I like to do the bread this way so that each piece is filled with the filling, and the servings just seem a lot more substantial to me. And a small piece will go a long way. One of these easily fed my family of 5.
Pizza night has never been so easy. You’ll love this easy weeknight dinner, and the whole family will love it, too. Especially if you have pizza and taco lovers, like I do!

Taco French Bread Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 package 1 oz mild Old El Paso Taco Seasoning
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 loaf 16 oz French bread
- 4 oz shredded Cheddar cheese
- 4 oz shredded Monterey Jack Cheese
- shredded lettuce diced tomatoes, cilantro, sour cream, diced avocados, or any other desired taco toppings
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet. Drain any grease if necessary. Add the taco seasoning and 2/3 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, until thickened, 3 to 4 minutes.
- Holding a paring knife at an angle, cut a V in the top of the loaf of French bread, forming a “boat”. Pull out any excess bread in the center, making sure to leave a 1/2” border around the sides and bottom of the bread. Place the bread on a baking sheet.
- Once the ground beef mixture is cooked, pour it into the French bread boat. Top with both cheeses.
- Bake in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and top with your desired toppings. Cut into slices to serve.
